Passion and Calm. Desire and Mindful Meditation. Rage and Peace. Fire and Rain. I began this series of paintings when my Dad was diagnosed with stomach cancer and I was rolling between two extremes in my emotions.
Exploring the juxtaposition of light and dark (white and black) between green, red, and blue also gives this piece additional depth and the series together tells the story of my emotional see-sawing as I wrestled with the mortality of my father and my own mortality.
This painting is done with acrylic on hardboard and is 24 inches by 48 inches. Fire & Rain is painted double-sided so on one side is Fire and on the other side is Rain. The hardboard can be affixed to a standard solid wood frame showing only one side or within a solid wood frame and hung and presented as a sculpture so both sides are viewable.
